Romania is ranked 11 in the world in wine production

Romania ranks 11 in the world ranking of winemakers, far away from Italy and France, who are fighting for first place.

The largest wine producers in the world, this year, are, according to estimates published by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV)

    Italy - 40.8 million hectoliters,
    France - 40.4 million hectoliters,
    Spain - 31.5 million hectoliters,
    US-20.5 million hectoliters,
    Argentina - 11.7 million hectoliters,
    Australia -11.5 million hectoliters,
    Chile - 10.8 million hectoliters,
    South Africa - 10 million hectoliters,
    Germany-8 million hectoliters,
    Portugal - 5.8 million hectoliters,
    Romania - 4.059 million hectoliters.


Worldwide, total production is estimated at 248.2 million hectoliters, down 6% from a year earlier, on lower vineyard at about 7550 million hectares, compared to 7.8 million ha in 2003, writes agrointel.ro
